Who wins the Featherweight Title…?
In 3 weeks time, AFC fans will bare witness to the biggest Featherweight title fight in our promotions history. Reigning champion Alex ‘The Hulk’ Volkanovski will battle the young and hungry Jamie Mullarkey in what promises to be an ultra competitive fight.
Similar to the Middleweight title fight, there are a number of questions that will need to be answered in this one:
- Can Jamie deal with the relentless pressure that Alex brings?
- Can Alex handle the big power in Jamie hands?
- Can Jamie survive the devastating ground and pound of Alex should the fight hit the ground?
- Can Alex do what no other man has been able to and find a way to hand Jamie his first professional loss?
Well it’s only a matter of time before we get answers to these questions; however the main question still remains – who will win the Featherweight title?
Will it be Jamie Mullarkey…?
Jamie is currently undefeated and is the reigning 2 time BRACE Featherweight Champion. Having only gone the distance once in his career, Jamie has massive power in his hands and devastating elbows that quickly and viscously end fights. On top of that, he can find the submission from numerous positions having previously ended fights via Rear Naked Choke and Arm Triangle Choke. AFC fans saw him dominate Issac Hardman back at AFC 13 on route to winning the Crew Generation 2. Massive power, sublime technique and diverse striking makes the Challenger a very dangerous prospect.
Will it be Alex Volkanovski…?
The Champ earned the title back at AFC 13 when he stopped James Bishop in the very first round after dropping some absolute bombs on the ground. Alex proved he is the most dangerous Featherweight in Australia and claimed the title he has believed is rightfully his for sometime now. Alex’s approach is relentless; his work ethic and output leaves his opponents under constant pressure, and when the opportunity arises, he finishes fights. His ground game is dominant, but his striking also poses serious issues for opponents as Alex has finished 6 fights by KO/TKO and you can throw in 3 submission victories as well. Alex has proven that once he gets the fight to the ground, the next time his opponent will stand up is sometime after the ref has called the fight off! Constant pressure, vicious ground and pound and an unrivalled killer instinct makes ‘The Champ’ very difficult to dethrone.
So on March 19, the world will learn who earns the right to be AFC Featherweight Champion; Mullarkey may win, Volkanovski may win, but once again its guaranteed that AFC fans will definitely win!
